Troika!

We had a wonderful time in Greece performing at the An Club with Film, as well as the Small Music Theater in Athens with AntiStres.


Greek audiences have to be the warmest I've yet encountered, apart from audiences made up of my mom. Thank you again to Antistress (see pic of us all) & Film (live below).

Check out the amazing lineup for Troika. I don't know about you's, but we're going to be bouncing around downtown Durham like a couple 'a pinballs from Wednesday clear till Saturday. We're looking forward to performing on Friday with many great bands and will be playing a short acoustic set on WCHL 1360, Wednesday morning.

We are off to Munich, Germany and then to Greece! We might be playing in Munich, but our next scheduled show is in Athens on October 7th with AntiStres & D-FAULT. Yia sas!

home again - no more cake

Blogger is working and I have posted new pics (below). I hope you find them interesting.

After Vegfest we headed over to Norfolk VA to perform at Relative Theory Records, a great record store full of music, vegan options, and bands. We played with several good musicians including In Black and White. Prior to the show we headed to Kate's Custards to buy a much talked about soy ice cream shake, but found to our (my) dismay that due to the power outage, we could not purchase one! After decking the barista, we indulged. Actually, I held my disappointment back and instead headed to Bella's, where an excellent soy-cheese pizza was served with some veg's on top.
The show went well and we were full of enough adrenalin to drive back to Durham, NC...we were missing our dog Syba and cat Greco.

It is good to be back, and we look forward to seeing everyone again! Also, please check out our good friend G's blog - it is a great account of historical Durham juxtaposed with Durham today - the pictures (before and after) powerfully draw attention to the demolition that has occured over time, so that we may try to preserve architectural integrity and a historical sense of our city...a must read.

Cupcake, UpState, & Other Shows

Hi faithful followers of the cake,
I am reporting from the Scranton, PA library, so limited time. We arrived safely in Syracuse, as mentioned previously, and performed at the Empty Cup. Worth mentioning was the band The Scarlet Ending, composted of two talented twins who played guitar, keys, and violin (with outstanding vibrato I might add...I quit the violin after 2.5 years right when I was required to learn vibrato...vibrado? Crying may or may not have been involved). The drummer was also quite excellent, and the 3-way harmonies added to the whole mix.

We had a day to kill, so to speak, and leafleted at Syracuse U. We also saw An Inconvenient Truth and Wordplay while there.

Then it was off to play VegFest, under an overcast sky with threats of rain. Luckily we still were able to play, and I rather liked the outdoor venue experience. The breeze kept us cool (which balanced our inherant un-coolness out very well) and our hairs blew in the wind. We played there with a few bands, and I must say I was quite transfixed by
27, a band out of Boston playing rainstorm melody grooves in a cabin on fire.
We were also fortunate enough to sample a vegan mint- chocolate cupcake w/vanilla cream frosting created by (sweet teeth?). Very nice ending to a long, long day.
